Rain and Rest

Ahhhhhhh......  we finally have a little rain here at Silo Hill Farm and it is much needed!  I also am taking a little much needed blog break while I am helping a friend paint her utility room.  My friend, Bootsie (that is not her given name, but she's been called that since she was a child) is one of the nicest ladies I've ever met and I'd help her paint the gravel in her driveway if she asked me to!
Time spent with Bootsie is always time well spent, it doesn't matter what you are doing.

I did want to take a minute to share a couple of pictures with you.  One of my favorite plants that grows wild around here is a trumpet vine, or what we call Hummingbird Vine, because the hummingbirds love them.
It's kind of more like a bush, but it can be trained and I wish I had made more of an effort to train this one because it's kind of a mess.....but a beautiful mess.

Every spring after it gets it's leaves, it gets these orange balls on it that are covered with aunts just like a peony.
Here's a closer look at them:
Now I've never caught them in a more advanced stage than this, but it just seems that one morning they are just little round orange buds and then the next they are these:
Aren't they lovely?  And the hummers are crazy about them!

Now, imagine a whole bush full of them!
I love them, ants and all!

And before I go off to help my friend finish painting, I'll leave you with a couple of more fun pictures of some "wild" turkeys that like to visit my yard.  I say "wild" because it seems to me they are becoming more and more tame!  These pictures were taken when my Mulberry Tree was full of berries and apparently turkeys love Mulberries!
Who knew?

Enjoy your weekend.....I'm off to paint and then I'm coming home to enjoy the rain and work on a craft again!

  1. Hey there, fellow Danni! I saw your name on another blog's comments and couldn't resist dropping by. There's another gal at my work who spells her name "Dani". It's nice to see that I'm not the only one spelling it correctly ;)

  4. That vine is so pretty. And who doesn't love something that attracts hummingbirds. The turkeys - they crack me up. We have them here too and I'm always surprised at how huge they look. Glad you got the rain!

we have a nursery here with a little coffee shop attached. the tables are under a big mulberry tree and you have to fight the turkeys to get to a chair...
