Stencilled Pillow.... So Easy!

Hurray for Monday! (I'm just trying to give myself a pep talk.)
I did this project for a guest post a while back, but I'm reposting it here in case you missed it.
Today, I want to share with you a super easy project I did in under an hour and looking at it, you won't believe what I did it with.
Let me just start by saying that I really stink at stencilling!  I can't tell you how many projects I have ruined when I got to the stencilling part.  I have finally come up with a better alternative for me and maybe for you too!

I made my own pillow, you can find the tutorial here, but really, you can do this on any pillow cover or case that you like.
You'll need 4 things to get this project started:
A Pillow Cover
A piece of paper (I used a cut up grocery bag)
A Fabric Marking Pen
A Fabric Marker

The first think I did was cut a paper grocery bag and fit it inside the pillow, just in case there was any bleed-through.  (In this case there wasn't any, but I'm a safety girl!)
Once I eye-balled where I wanted my design, I used the fabric marking pen to trace it on.  You could probably skip this part, but if you mess it up, you can just use a little water and erase the fabric marking pen lines, not so with the Fabric Marker itself, it's permanent.
Next, using my Fabric Marker (these come in wonderful colors, but for this project I chose black) I just traced over my design. Fabric Markers do not bleed like regular markers.
It doesn't have to be exact because if any of the blue shows, it's going to be gone the first time you wash it, and from a very short distance, you can't even see it.
After you have finished tracing with your fabric marker, pull the paper out, put your pillow in and presto.....you just made a beautiful stencilled pillow! No paint involved!
Seriously, so fast, so easy and so washable!  Gotta love it!

(I will say that I tried this with a Sharpie, and it bled too much.  I also let the Sharpie dry on a piece of test fabric and then wet it and it ran like crazy.  Maybe it depends on your fabric, but I'm sticking with the fabric markers.)

  16. Fabric markers? Why is this the first time I am hearing about such a thing? I am inspired! Glad to see your 1st and 2nd pillow making experience didn't scare you away from making another one. I love the stencils you added for embellishment. Adorable.
