Just a Few Things From The Farm

Just a few things I wanted to share this morning from the farm.  First, I'm seeing some buds on my Catalpa Tree.  I can't wait for it to bloom.  It's always blooming on my birthday.....how great is that?!  Here is a picture from a previous bloom.
Check out the ground....when the blooms fall off it looks like snow!
The blooms themselves, look very much like orchid flowers.
They are the fluffiest, ruffliest (is that a word?) most delicate things.  They only last about a day and the whole bloom is over and done in a week or two.  But so beautiful to see!

Now on to something a little less soft and fluffy.......
I find a lot (and I do mean a lot) of really cool rocks on my farm.
Check it:
I love these round rocks.  These are just a few....I have some really big round rocks too!

And then there are these things:
The top one is a grinding stone with part of a base that it fits in.  The bottom one is some kind of a digging tool.  It fits in my hand so perfectly it's crazy.  These come from Indian tribes (probably Osage Indians) and they are so very old.  Apparently my farm was once a popular hang out for Native Americans....because I have found bags and bags of these:
Arrowheads, blanks, drills, scrapers....I can't resist hunting for them every time we plow!
I love my farm.....it's full of surprises!

  1. How cool is that! Love the beautiful flowering tree, never heard of it before but it is so gorgeous! And those rocks!!! Am so in love with rocks, there are lots and lots i collected all over my garden. The grinding stone is beautiful!
would so love to come over and do something with you :-). Thanks so much dear Danni xxx

  2. Danni, this is terrific! I am in love with rocks, big and small, so your spectacular finds are my kind of fun!

  3. Danni, does that tree have thorns? I have one that looks the same and was told it was a Kentucky Coffee tree. Your rocks and primitive tools are amazing! Just think of holding something in your hand that someone used 10,000 years ago! ~ Maureen

  4. Wow, that tree is beautiful! But how amazing is to find all those relicts of thousands of years of history?! So cool!
    xo! Vanessa

  5. This is so beautiful, I live in a city and I wish I could live something like this, closer to nature =)
