FAUX FALL CORN EARS - MAKE SOME!

Want to make your own fall corn to use in your decor?  Check it...
This awesome faux corn is the brain-child of my amazing friend Judy.  It is so much fun to have a talented friend to craft with!
She sent me a couple of these in the mail and when she was here last weekend I asked her to please teach me how to do this.  I was  so surprised at how easy and quick it was and now I want to show you.
All you need is some paper twist, markers, glue, scissors and either a paper towel tube or a toilet paper tube....or both is you want large and small corn.
Cut your paper twist in 5-6 pieces about 15" for long corn ears and 71/2" for shorter corn ears.  Untwist the pieces.
Using scissors, shape one end of each piece to look like corn husks.  Cover one end of your toilet paper tube with a little bit of the scrap paper twist, so that it doesn't show inside of your corn ear.  Just fold it in half and glue it on the inside and outside of the very end.
Glue your corn husks around the tube, overlapping each piece.
(What I didn't show in this picture is that you'll want about 2" of the paper to stick out past the bottom of your tube, so you can twist the ends of the paper together, when you have them all attached.)

Now you want to make the "corn tassels" that tuck inside the tube.  Take a piece of the unfolded twist and cut it however long you need it so that it can be glued to the inside of the tube and still stick out above the corn husks, but don't glue it in yet.....you need to give it some color.  Grab a few markers in some green, yellow and red colors and just lightly go over the high spots in your twist, on both sides.
Then, fringe cut the paper about 3/4 of the way down.
Roll it up and glue it down in the inside of your tube, making sure that enough of the tassel is sticking out above your corn husks.  Grab the tassels and just kind of give them a twist so that they stay together.  Twist the bottoms of your corn husks together so that it is shaped like a corn ear and they should look about like this.
Wasn't that easy?!  I think it took us about an hour to make 4 of them.  I can think of a lot of things to do with these in my fall decorating, and....they'll keep stored away year after year without molding or falling apart like real corn ears do.
Excuse me while I shamelessly promote my pallet shelf I made because these faux corn ears look awesome on it!
I want to thank my good friend Judy for teaching me how to make these and I also want to thank my good friend Kim, because she gave me about 5 miles of this great paper twist.  I introduced you to Kim when I first started blogging....you can read about her HERE.
She just moved to the outer banks of North Carolina and is living her dream and blogging about it at JunknPretties.  Please visit her and give her a little encouragement from the blog world.  She also does the most awesome furniture makeovers for all of you furniture fans and you really should take a look at her facebook page, HERE, and see some of her amazing stuff.
I miss you Kim, but I know you are so happy with your toes in the sand!!
(I shamelessly stole your picture....sorry!)
I miss you Judy, but I know you are coming back soon for a marathon crafting visit!
(Look Judy....I have a new picture of you to use....one where you are not eating!)

How lucky am I to know these two awesome women and to be able to call them my friends???!!!!!

    1. It is just paper that is twisted tightly and comes in kind of a rope looking coil usually. You can get it in most craft stores and it comes in many colors. Mine just happens to be plain. It's kind of fun stuff to mess with!
