THE LETTER "B"

In an effort to bring more yellow into my decor this last week, I made a yellow letter B:

I couldn't help thinking about the old Sesame Street shows where they say "This episode was brought to you by the letter....B".   Or whatever the letter of the day was!  Funny.  Speaking of that famous street....remember when the creepy Muppet would come on and say "Hey kid! You wanna buy a "B"?"  Seriously......Jim Henson was a genius, but I think some of his stuff was rooted in some crazy places!!
Anyway, I picked this B up from Hobby Lobby a long time ago and thought I would make it polka dotted. I also was concerned because my letter was kind of thin and didn't want to stand up on it's own.  It has a hanger....but I wanted it to stand.  (I figured it out...and it may be the best part of this project...I'll share it at the end.) Then I started keeping an eye on all of the letters out there and couldn't make up my mind what to do.  When I started on my yellow campaign, I knew this was the direction the letter B would be heading.
So.....I started by painting my letter B yellow.
When it dried, I took some of this "fabric" tissue paper which I told you about on this Frame Up project, and traced the letter on to it and cut it out. (That fabric tissue paper is awesome....not as delicate as tissue and comes in amazing patterns.)
I covered my B with Mod-Podge and put the paper B on it, let it dry and gave it a top coat of the same.
Now it looked all pretty, but I wanted it to stand up by itself.  Here's what I did to make that happen.....
I hot glued some little tiny wooden blocks that I got from Hobby Lobby together to make this shape.
I painted them yellow too...even though you can't see them...because I'm a nut about stuff matching.  Then I hot glued them on to the back of my B.
Now it stands up nice and straight and it looks all pretty up on my shelf.
I'm happy to have a little more yellow in my decor.....Yay!
(This post was brought to you by the letter "B".)

  3. Okay Danni, I officially follow you because your have some great ideas for crafting, but honestly your writing is the best! I remember all those Sesame Street moments so well (and I agree about the creepy guy who sold the letters BTW)! I laughed out loud and am now trying to figure out where to buy that tissue paper! Thanks for making my day lady!

  13. Yes, it is lovely! I love the color and the little flowery pattern, but most of all I like that the letter's outline is a little curvy, like a cartoon.
