After weeks of talking about it...... I finally added some yellow to my decor! Yay!!
I think it looks sunny without being too overpowering. Just what I wanted. I started out with just a small, plain clay flower pot. I kind of wanted a chalk paint look, but I didn't have any chalk paint and I didn't want to go get some, nor did I have the stuff to make some......sooooooo....
First, I painted the pot white. I didn't try to make it all even or anything. After 2 coats of white, it looked like this:
Then, I gave it a coat of yellow over the white. Again, I didn't try to make this look all even and perfect.
I still thought it was a little too yellow, so I cleaned out my brush and decided to try "dry-brushing" some more white over it. Dry-brushing is really just putting some paint on your brush and wiping off almost all of the paint onto a paper bag, then lightly brushing it over the surface of whatever you are painting. A paper bag really does work best. I have tried using newspaper before, but sometimes the ink comes off onto your brush......not good.
This technique gave me the "chalk paint" look that I wanted. It's just a light yellow color with a little bit of white striation running through it. Because I can't leave anything without some embellishment, I took some garden twine and glued it around the pot using Tacky Glue. I added a couple of buttons with one little sparkle in the center, because just a little bling goes a long way for me.
Now it sits on my kitchen table and looks all happy. I would have planted something pretty in it today, but it's rainy and I don't want to go out to the shed for my potting soil. My "made-from-a-kit" Brown-Eyed Susans will have to do for today! I learned two things with this project.... 1) I can add a little sunshine into my decor without going crazy and 2) If you have a small project and don't want to mess with chalk paint....this process works just fine. Hope the sun's shining where you are today!

Yellow is one of my favourite color. This pot is cheerful and very spring/summer look. So fresh, so happy have it in the house.
ReplyDeleteI love the yellow! Bright colors make me smile and I've been sneaking then into my house as much as possible without looking like I live in an Easter egg!
