Every time either one of them write a post about their chickens...I'm all
If you want to read about one of Maureen's chicken adventures, check out How Did A Chicken Get In My Bathtub?. If you want to know some of the cutest chicken names ever and see a great recipe for deviled eggs, Check out Marci's post Got Eggs?. I'm sure that neither of them realize how much I love their chicken posts, nor that each one just contributes to my ever growing affliction of Chicken Envy. This Missouri farm girl from the Greater Chicago Area wants some chickens......but first....I need a chicken coop...because we have coyotes. *sigh* If you have some plans for an awesome chicken coop that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, please let me know.
In the meantime, I'll just look at my little egg vase, with the faux eggs (but real straw!) and keep reading Maureen and Marci's posts and dream.

LOVE this! I am with you on the real chickens. Although we are raising meat birds. I get the fresh eggs from my SIL. It is amazing. In just a few short weeks I could give you fresh chickens to eat. I'll do all the mess. :) Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteThat is the cutest vignette of your latest project! You are certainly on a "Easter Egg Roll" Danni! Ahhh - did you get it? Lol!
ReplyDeleteNot sure that I am a chicken girl but I like your bunny and eggs. I think we are dog people. We must be we have two of them!
ReplyDeleteThat is so pretty Danni, what a lovely display. This is just so lovely it makes me want to decorate for Easter (but I won't)
ReplyDeleteI usually love reading about Maureen's chickens, but the last one was a sad. I'd love chickens but Julian says he can't flush a chicken and I can't seem to keep animals alive so sadly none for me either.
I would do almost anything to be able to have chickens. We are ten feet shy according to the city. And there you are, with your big ol' farm, and not a chicken in sight. Foreshame.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful vase. :) I love those little bunnies too. My friends in Portland have chickens. I am not sure I could handle them though. :)
ReplyDeleteSince I am presently paying over $4 a dozen for free-range eggs, I, too, have thought about chickens. I hatched a bunch of eggs once for the kids, though, and remember that those little guys get big and messy! I also might add that I live in a suburb with a postage-size back yard. I'm sure raising chickens is NOT legal here, but who checks out those pesky little facts? My chicks went off to live on a lovely small farm not too far away.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute idea that really shows off the pretty eggs. I would like having fresh eggs but not the chickens! heehee! They are a lot of work! Happy Spring!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was around 8 yrs old, I had a pet chicken for one summer. Named her Judy, after the big sister in Lost In Space (I was totally into Billy Mumy. Do I date myself?) She lived in a camelia bush in our urban Seattle back yard, and gave us an egg a day. She was sooo sweet.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you can borrow a chicken or two for a summer, like I did.
I think I mostly want a cute chicken coop. Maybe I should just build myself a coop and forget the chickens. Actually we aren't allowed to have chickens in town, but I think it would be kind of fun. Of course, I probably wouldn't think that when I had to find someone to care for my chickens when I went out of town.
ReplyDeleteIt always amazes me how you can take such simple ingredients and make such an elegant setting. talent!! love those bunnies too.
ReplyDeleteI am a little extreme in my love of animals so if I was 'raising chickens', they'd all live in my house. Heck, if I was raising a cow it would live in my house. When the weather was nice they could go outside. So, I'll stick with cats, who don't produce squat, but I have told them they are reponsible for keeping the birds out of the house. They like to feel valuable...
ReplyDeleteI used to want chickens, until I met a mean rooster. He's lucky he isn't on my mantel. The chicken coops are a definite lure- I can't even imagine what yours would be like, Oh, Queen.
ReplyDeleteI bet you made those carrots.
Thanks for sharing another cute craft that you created in your sleep. I know you must. You sleep craft!
So you have chicken envy, huh? That only makes me adore you even more. What a lovely project. I love the fake carrots, you know the way to my heart.
ReplyDeleteHey girlie ;) we have chickens too! I have 8, their names are: Dixie, Billie, Lulu, Penny (also referred to as Wellie), Gloriana, Corie and two which I've sort of named Poppy and Red, their names haven't totally stuck yet, lol
ReplyDeleteOur first chicken coop was a 3story... It was small, but entirely made out of used wood and remnants. It's the current "summer cottage" for when it's too hot for them in e barn. They're pretty easy to take care of in my opinion. I mean you do need to feed and water them everyday. But they don't need a whole lot, just a good area to scratch about! We also have two goats and a duck. Goats are harder because they're a bigger animal, they need shots and more work! Lol so,e can be very sweet though. I also have a duck, Mally the mallard or Quackers as my fiancé refers to him. He sleeps with the goats and the chickens. Lol funny guy! Anyway. If you ever have any questions, let me know !

Oh Danni! You MUST get some chickens!! :)))
ReplyDeleteChickens scare me lol- ( they really do - because I'm a chicken s_ _ t.............
ReplyDeleteBut that vase is soooo pretty - and something I can definitely do - and definitely will.

Oh, Danni! I love your vase and your bunnies AND your carrots! You are The Craftiest of The Crafty! Suzan's comment cracks me up! Thanks for mentioning my hens! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
ReplyDelete'Just got a call from my sweet friend, Lois. She and her husband picked up a white "fell off the truck" hen and asked if we would give her a good home. Of course we will, poor thing. I asked Lois to choose a name. "Lucky Lois" will arrive in a little while. I promise to keep you posted. -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
ReplyDeleteI will tell you that local eggs sell for $4-5 a dozen around here because your lot has to be large to have hens (no roosters allowed). Love the vase with the eggs and I actually think that these bunnies are not scary at all.
ReplyDeleteI love that comment above. I often see those chickens fall off the truck along the highway and wonder if there is someone who will rescue them. If you can catch them our SPCA will take them to adopt out.
This is hilarious because I wrote about the down side of having chickens tonight! lol Mine have all gone crazy. Today, I think you are better off with pumpkins and corn. Love the vase and I really want some of those cute carrots!

These are cute! I read a gal who writes about chickens too, and I love it. I haven't seen the two you mentioned though, I'm headed over to take a look. :)
ReplyDeleteDanni, I love your bunnies! I think it would be so great to have chickens! I recently found a website by another lady who just writes about her chickens and everything related to it...will try to find that for you, she MUST have some chicken coop ideas. Have a great weekend! ~Cindy@littlemisscelebration.com
ReplyDeleteYou really do need chickens, there is nothing to compare with the taste of fresh eggs!
ReplyDeleteWe have 6 ladies - Pandora, Zara, Jacy, Brownie, Davika, and Pebbles. They will follow you anywhere! :)
We made our coop out of an old ice fishing hut that wasn't being used anymore. We added a second 'bench', cut a hole and I built the ramp to the hole. Then added an enclosed raised outdoor area. We have since added a large run off the main door. We have a light on a timer inside and there was already a window. We added a couple high shelves in the corners, the ladies like to perch there. This was all made with wood we had lying around and the only thing we had to buy was another roll of chicken wire. So, it was very cheap!
Debbie :)
thanx for stopping by and following :) you told me i´m a no-reply blogger. are you sure? what do i have to change? help needed ♥
ReplyDeletethanx for your tipp! now i understand. it´s only about e-mail. ok, i like to go to the blogs and not to the mails, that why i didn´t activate it :) but i´ll do for you and see how it works.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute egg vase! The eggs look lovely, but it would be nice to have your own eggs in a vase :) I hope you find a good coop plan that will work for you. We actually turned an old shed into a coop by just adding some nesting boxes that I got from my aunt from her old chicken farm and some 2x4s for roosting. There are many ways you can house chickens! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteFabulous vignette Danni! Love the eggs in the vase. We've often thought about having chickens, but have never gone ahead with it. I guess because of our winters, but it would be nice to have fresh eggs.
ReplyDeleteSo with you on chicken envy Danni girl! My yard is too small though I'd truly love them!
ReplyDeleteI vase is so pretty, I also adore the rabbits and carrots!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute idea! Now I know what to do with that vase left over from Valentine's Day.
ReplyDeleteSimply lovely, Danni, the soft colors are a pleasure for the eye!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this and those little bunnies are adorable! I have a vase just like....thanks for the brilliant idea!! :) Thank you for sharing at A Bouquet of Talent. :)
