Burlap Bird Silhouette Frame

I found yet another piece of burlap.  It wasn't very big, but it wasn't small enough to throw away.  I decided to try my hand at making a little bird silhouette picture:

I was inspired by this little sheet music wrapped tin that my good friend Judy sent me:

Isn't it sweet?  It once held "Godiva Pearls" and while I was visiting her, I was finished with the pearls and the tin was headed for the trash.  Judy rescued it and then it arrived in the mail looking so cute all covered with sheet music and a bird on a branch, with a note attached that said "You finish it off."  I added some ribbon, a few sparkles and a button on the top.  A long distance joint project....what fun!
Anyway.........

Want to make that bird frame for yourself?  Here's what you'll need:

Frame
Piece of Burlap
Bird shape or outline
Scissors and/or Rotary Cutter & Mat
Sheet Music Scrap
Ribbon
Tacky Glue

I would love to have a silhouette machine, but I don't......yet.  So I traced my bird out onto some black decal paper (if you don't have decal paper, you can just use any paper and glue it on):

Then I cut my burlap for the background:

Next I tore the edges off of a scrap piece of sheet music and used some Tacky Glue (love that stuff!) to adhere it to a couple of pieces of black ribbon.  (I used 2 pieces because I didn't have a wide enough piece.)  I really like the look of the torn edges.

At this point it's just a matter of assembling the 3 parts now.  I put the music strip on the burlap using Tacky glue and peeled the backing off of the bird and stuck it on over the top of the music strip.  I put it all in the frame and this project is finished:

I put it up on a shelf in my living room next to that little sheet music covered tin that my friend Judy made for me,  and a burlap covered tin that I made and told you about here.  It all makes a lovely vignette and I'm enjoying looking at it!

Peter Rabbit Frame Up

This is a project that I did for a guest post.  I'm posting it on my own page today.  I hope you enjoy it!
I haven't done a picture frame-up since this one that I did for Valentine's Day, so I thought I'd make one for my Easter mantel.  It was such a fun project and pretty easy too!

I started out with just a few supplies.
A 5 x 7 Photo Frame
A page from "Peter Rabbit"
A few pieces of green silk ribbon
Tacky Glue (love that stuff!)
And non-woven fabric sheet squares
These sheer squares are very similar to tissue paper, but feels like landscaping cloth or weed barrier.  (You could use tissue paper, fabric, or any kind of craft paper for the background in this project....I just happened to have this and it matched my ribbon.)
I cut the background paper to fit the frame.  Then I tore the edges of my photo as opposed to cutting it with scissors because I just liked the softer edges that you get from tearing.
I then positioned the picture onto the background paper and fastened it on with a few dots of Tacky Glue.  While that was drying I cut one of my strips of ribbon in half and glued them onto the background paper at an angle in the upper left corner.  I made a little bow out of the other strip of ribbon.

After about 10 minutes, the glue was dry and I put the picture into the frame and fastened the ribbon onto the upper corner  with a dot of glue and this little project was finished.
I thought that tearing the picture at an angle and then accenting it with the angled ribbon and bow really made the whole frame kind of eye-catching.  What do you think?

A Pretty Burlap Tin

I was making a few burlap projects this week and here is one of them:
\
Doesn't that just look fun!
It was one of those projects that took about 10 minutes.  It started with just a can.  It may have been a tuna can in it's former life.   I cut a strip of burlap with my rotary cutter and used my favorite Tacky Glue to adhere it to the can.

At this point I stopped taking pictures, but there really wasn't much left to it.  I glued some black ribbon to the top and bottom.  Next I put a little black button on the burlap and glued a little dot of bling in the center of it.  I added a piece of black feather boa to the top and I was finished.  I think  it looks kind of whimsical.  I'll show you my other burlap project this weekend.  In the meantime.......
Have a great Thursday!

Bejeweled Rabbit

This rabbit is such a surprise on my Easter mantel...er I mean shelf.
She's all bling-out and ready for spring!   I love the way she sparkles on my shelf.  This was probably one of the easiest Easter projects I've ever done.  Here's what you need:
Tacky Glue (you know I love that stuff!)
Various Jewels/Beads (these came from Hobby Lobby)
Toothpick
Rabbit (mine is ceramic)

All I did was put a drop of glue on the center of my plate and use the toothpick to put a little dot of glue on the back of the jewel.  Then I put it on the rabbit.  Repeat, repeat, repeat......
I didn't have a pattern or a plan, I just kind of put them on there randomly.  I guess you could draw a pattern on the rabbit first if you wanted to.  I let her dry about an hour just to make sure the jewels would stick.  That was pretty much it.
She's the sparkliest thing I have on my shelf this Easter and no glitter was involved!

C'mon....who needs an Easter Bonnet when you are bejeweled???!!!  Have a hoppy day! (sorry..had to)
