STRANGE THINGS ARE HAPPENING

Some strange things are happening at Silo Hill Farm.....
Let's start with the above picture.  Remember my Succulent Planter that I made?
You know....the one with the cute/creepy little plant called Baby Toes?
Well, succulents don't normally grow very fast, but it seemed to be "still alive" every time I looked at it, which made me happy. Then one day, this appeared...

Just a little bud.  So I watched it and this is what happened.....
Exotic, isn't it?  You can see that it has 3 more little buds on it so I'll get to watch this happen again.
Other strange things are happening here at the farm as well.  For instance, after years of living here and loving it, we have made a decision to sell our farm.  Yep, that's a big one.  During our 23 years of marriage, we have always lived in the country or the mountains.  This time we are stepping out of our comfort zone a little and we're going to buy a house in town.  A little more house and a lot less land is in our future.  Should be interesting.
Along with that decision, I have also given up my job.  One more week and I'm done.  I have a lot on my plate getting this house and farm ready to sell, but I suppose I'll have a little more time for creativity as well.  I'll also have time for a little more blogging, who knows?  I do have several things to share, like, I met 2 more awesome bloggers this summer AND I did learn some furniture painting which I have yet to show you AND, I'm still working on my black and white bedroom makeover.
Another thing I know that I'll have time for is a little more reading....something I have missed in all of my busyness.  I'm starting out with this....
I read "The Great Gatsby" in Jr. High English class.  I have zero recollection of it (hello...it was Jr. High....boys and fashion were the center of my world) so wanted to read it again before I saw the movie.  When Jessica at The Thriftiness Miss asked me, along with Mel from Mellywood's Mansion and Shatzi at Love and Laundry to join in a read and then watch challenge, I jumped right in!  Care to join us?  It's not too late (I'm picking up my book tomorrow) and you can read about it and sign up at The Thriftiness Miss:  The Great Gatsby Challenge.  These are some great girls, a great book,  supposedly an awesome movie.  I'm looking forward to reading, watching and discussing it and I'm hoping some of you will join in!

  1. I don't know where to start here, so I'll just dive in! First, good for you guys for making the big decision! Selling the farm must have been a monumentally difficult decision, but I'm sure you are doing what's best for the family.

Next, the job thing--I think you will like the new job of getting the farm ready a whole lot more. It's tough work, but satisfying in the long run. I say that as one who only had to get a little four bedroom house ready one time. Your job will, of course, be much bigger. I hope you will find time to post about it--every little bit.

About those succulents, I am so jealous. I was jealous when you first did it, but now I'm turning green with envy. I'm so kicking myself that I didn't rush off to Lowe's the moment I saw it. By the time I got there, everything was picked over. I've been searching online for cactus sellers.

  4. WHOA!!! OK, first the succulent is amazing!!! I love that little flower. And now on to the BIG stuff. Selling the farm?! I am shocked, but happy for you both. A change is always good for us. It helps us grow.....believe me, I have done some major growing in this past year :) And lastly I can't wait to hear about you meeting the bloggers. And see the furniture.
You have lots going on girl. Embrace it and find the blessings in each step.

  13. Wow. That is a big change moving to town. We don't live on a farm but we do have almost 8 acres and I can't see my neighbors. I don't know if I could go back to living in a neighborhood. But then again, sometimes when we are in little towns I think I'd like to live where I could walk to everything. Good luck with selling and the move. I look forward to hearing about it!

  14. Wow! What huge changes! I'm sure that you'll miss the farm, but at the same time, you may find a great deal more time to explore your creative side (and to have some cozy evenings with the mister and a bottle of wine). I look forward to following along in your relocation adventure!

(p.s. The succulent bloom is awesome! Well done!)

  16. Oh wow,...exciting news. I am so thrilled for you,...it's going to be really interesting to see how you like being in town. Maybe you'll even have an entire crafting room you can do up. Mmmmmmm. Sounds great.

  17. Holy smokes, girlfriend! That is big news. I live squashed up to my neighbors' houses and ... I really like it. Small yards can really offer up some nice opportunities. Plus, I can walk downtown from my house and that helps me keep in touch with what is occurring in my community.

The daisy-looking blossom is great, but what I really adore is that tiki torch thing it had going on. Nature is fabulously creative.

  21. Let me just say that selling the farm is much better than buying the farm. Hooray. :P Those freaky baby toes are amazing!! And WOOT! "Giving up your job"!!! I keep trying to give mine up every year for Lent, but for some reason, Phil won't let me. For some reason he thinks that I won't be the one sacrificing anything...hmmmm...

Well, congrats on EVERYTHING! I need to be put on the list of bloggy friends to meet. :)

I discovered your painting skills by accident while checking out different bloggers. I'm here on your site to see how on earth I missed the post and others. Can't remember where I saw it - my browser keeps crashing, but I do remember that your results were awesome and I loved the shade of green you used. I'll be waiting for your tutorial. You make things seem so easy.

  34. The succulent is incredible, it must be very happy in that pot to sprout flowers !
I think life changes are good for us, so I wish you well in your house-hunting and I don't suppose you'll work less, even though you've given up your job. I wish I could give up my job !

  35. The plant is strangely pretty. It looks like it may need a pot of its own ;-) Moving? I totally understand that - large lots of land can be hard to keep up with, we have the same. I hope you can find a house in town that will give you some elbow room. I've seen some of them packed in together so close you could practically stretch out your arms and touch the other persons house. I wish you lots of luck! Happy that you can quit your job, ( I wish I could!) and I look forward to seeing your new posts on the B/W room.

  36. Who would have thought that funny little plant would produce such a beautiful flower,or should I say flowers! Danni, I'm so happy to hear that you are making a move to town. It sounds like you are going to be real busy for a while, but it will be exciting at the same time. New neighbors, a lot less work in the yard (I'm sure I have no idea.) And leaving your job, more time to be creative and blog??? sounds like great things are happening for you and your husband. Congrats on all the new happenings and decisions.
