QUICK AND EASY FALL YARD DISPLAY

My little farmhouse doesn't have a great front porch, but that doesn't stop me from having a nice display for fall.  Because I live on a rural road, I wanted something that could easily be seen and enjoyed by passing cars.
This colorful arch display was so easy and I did it in an hour.  Okay, Sam did drive the fence posts and fasten the piece of cattle panel to them. (Cattle panel is that flexible but strong piece of fencing that you see here between the two posts.) It's an easy and affordable enough display base, that doesn't take up too much room in my front yard.
See that wooden spool in the background there?  Remember when I drove to Kansas to pick up a trailer full of wooden spools of various sizes?  Uh huh...that's a lot of spools!!
You can read about that HERE if you like.  I have to say, it was pretty easy to select one that fit in the center of that arch, which I then loaded with some pumpkins, squash, bittersweet and a garden owl I picked up at a yard sale.  I tied some corn stalks to the front of the arch and added a couple of bales of hay with some more pumpkins, squash, bittersweet and a crow decoy.  At the top of the arch I added a little leaf garland that came from the dollars store.
I stood back, took a look at it and said..."Needs a scarecrow."
So I made one!
And that's how I spent a gorgeous fall Sunday afternoon.

  4. I would say the people passing by are so lucky to see you fall display. I think it's very thoughtful to set up a display for others to enjoy during the season.

  5. Oh, delightful! I actually have some of that cattle panel (didn't know that's what it was) and LOVE how you turned it into the arch. I am going to arch some right now, just for fun!

Also, look at the gorgeous fall colors on your farm - I am envious, in L.A. we don't get much of that.

  8. Great way to spend a Sunday afternoon! This looks great, and makes a wonderful fall display that can be left up until after Thanksgiving. Maybe I'll get around to doing a fall display before it's time to pull out the Christmas decorations LOL! But there's always next year, huh?

  9. That spur of the moment scarecrow is adorable! You really made a nice display with things that I never would have thought of. I love those stools...I saw one in a friends back field and thought I'd gotten lucky, but NO, she already had plans for it!

  13. Nobody around here goes to that much trouble to create a display like this. It is filled with the natural goodies of fall. In this neighborhood there are some mums, a couple of pumpkins, and those huge blow-up things. I might have to steal the cattle fence idea for a spring garden trellis. I can already see you taking this down to create a Christmas display. I know you!

  17. Hi Danni,
I clicked over from Hometalk to see more of your display. I couldn't really see the arch on the photos over there, and I have to say that using the fencing was very clever. We have some of that since we garden so I'll have to show my husband your display. Our scarecrow hasn't been dressed yet!

  26. That is a wonderful display. I wish I liven on a farm, it makes me happy to see all the pictures you share. It is my husband's and my dream to have a farm one day or at least own a lot of property and rent it to a farmer. All that fun fall stuff looks so much better in front of a farm house than on a suburban front porch.
